Frequently Asked Questions...
Q. How much does it cost to straighten teeth?
A. Although each case is different, it is usually quite easy to give an accurate estimate of the cost of treatment from a simple oral exam. Since Dr. Prince has a policy of not charging for the initial consultation, you can feel comfortable in making sure of costs prior to making any decisions.
Q. Will I have to have teeth pulled to have braces?
A. Several years ago, it was a very common thing for an orthodontist to recommend extraction of permanent teeth as part of the treatment plan. While extractions are still sometimes necessary, the new materials and techniques Dr. Prince uses have greatly reduced the need to make room in the mouth by pulling teeth.
Q. Do braces leave marks on the teeth?
A. No. Braces, when properly applied, are sealed to the tooths surface by an adhesive that is similar to the sealants used by your dentist to seal out cavities. Sometimes though, decalcification marks may be formed by inadequate brushing of teeth during orthodontic treatment. Dr. Prince provides a fluoride gel for home use that can help strengthen the tooth and prevent these problems.
Q. How long will it take to straighten my teeth?
A. As each case is different, so is the amount of time to complete treatment. For full comprehensive treatment of an adolescent or adult, the average is 24 months or less. During your consultation with Dr. Prince, he will do his best to estimate the time it would take to straighten your teeth.
Q. Are all orthodontists the same?
A. Many family dentists provide orthodontic treatment for their patients, but to be recognized by the American Dental Association as a Specialist in Orthodontics, one must complete additional formal training (usually 2 years past graduation from dental school). Dr. Prince is fully credentialed as a Specialist in Orthodontics.
