Upon birth, all children need two things - love and braces. One is required immediately, the other delayed temporarily. Both ensure a lifetime of smiles!

Why an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist's expertise comes from an extensive education. In addition to graduating from an accredited dental school, an orthodontist continues his or her education for an additional two to three years in a residency that studies only orthodontics. With an orthodontist, you are working with someone who is expert and a specialist in creating that beautiful smile and making sure the jaws fit properly for optimum health and good looks.

Dr. Prince recognizes that the technology of modern orthodontics is ever changing, bringing with it new and better ways to treat each case with more predictability. Recent advances in orthodontic materials allow for shorter treatment times with less discomfort. As the orthodontic profession changes, Dr. Prince is aggressive in his efforts to stay current with the most up to date advances in state of the art orthodontic appliances.

He uses “Unitek” brand of braces that are noted for their extremely high quality, ease of application and painless removal. Each “brace” or bracket is individually packaged for sterility and is specific for every tooth in the mouth. Dr. Prince also uses the “Damon” appliance as well as being highly skilled and experienced in the use of the “Invisalign” aligner system.

A great deal of focus is given to the interceptive philosophy of orthodontics. Dr. Prince suggests that a child's first visit to his office be approximately the age of seven or eight years old. While it is not often that complex treatment is commenced at this early age, some patients benefit greatly from simple interceptive procedures that are not costly and may prevent more serious problems as the child matures. He never charges for an initial consultation and provides complimentary “growth checks” as the child matures. In this manner, both conservative and comprehensive treatment can be planned for without the “surprises” that stress the family budget.

Even though orthodontics seems to be common with the 10 –16 year olds, adult orthodontics is becoming increasingly popular. Dr. Prince offers state of the art ceramic (clear) braces at no extra charge that many adults select because of their near invisibility. Most of his adult patients are surprised at how easy it is to have their teeth straightened and that treatment usually takes no longer than it would for a young patient.

Meet Dr. Prince

Dr. Prince grew up in St. George, where his father, Dr. R.A. Prince, was Southern Utah's first Orthodontist. He is truly a “local”, having attended Dixie High School prior to pursuing higher education.

Dr. Prince and his wife, Diane, have raised three children, all of which are involved in health professions. Their daughter Kristin is a dental hygienist, a son Ashton is a general dentist with a family practice in the Bloomington area of St. George, and their youngest son Ben is currently in medical school.

After graduating from Dixie High School, Dr. Prince graduated from Dixie Jr. College before attending Southern Utah State College (now SUU) as a Chemistry major. His four years in dental school was accomplished at the University of Southern California, considered by many to be
among the finest dental teaching facilities in the world. He graduated in 1981 as a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (the national dental honor fraternity) and received his D.D.S. degree. Dr. Prince's eventual goal was to follow his late father's footsteps and specialize in the practice of Orthodontics. Over the next two years after his graduation from dental school, he completed the necessary residency to qualify for Specialty status as recognized by the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. His first dental practice was in Beverly Hills, California but he moved his family back to St. George in May 1983, and has been in the exclusive practice of orthodontics ever since.

Although Dr. Prince graduated from one of the finest residency programs in the United States, he understands that this changing world of high technology requires him to stay current on new procedures and materials. He frequently attends formal course work to learn of the newest and the best.

His professional affiliations are membership in the American Dental Association, the Utah Dental Association (where he served as President of the So. Utah District), the American Association of Orthodontists, the Rocky Mtn. Society of Orthodontists, and the Utah Association of Orthodontists (where he served as President in 1998).

Dr. Prince is well known for his high standard of care. He was also honored in 1999 for excellence by the Utah Dental Hygiene Association.

Dr. Prince also enjoys community and church service. Although very involved in his Church, he finds additional time to work in Higher Education, serving on the Utah State Board of Regents.
